The Road is Not So Dark and Scary

“I was at that stage with my iPhone where I was like, ‘Are you going to go out through that window, or are you and I going to get along?’” Julie Napier giggled. The 57-year-old had been struggling to use her iPhone.

“I had a fear of the touch screen—the fear of open space with nothing to guide you. There’s no distinct path of where to go.” That is when Napier decided to grab her phone and follow along with one of Hadley’s workshops.

“I listened a couple of times, followed the gestures and thought, ‘I’m getting this!’”

“The best thing I did during the last few months was join these workshops. Oh, yes it was! I’ve joined a happy band of iPhone users. Oh, dear me, was I struggling! Thanks to the amazing workshops done by Douglas Walker, the road is not so dark and scary.”

Napier is an avid writer and storyteller, as is evidenced by her description of her iPhone screen. Napier lives in Liverpool, England with her guide dog, Winston. She continues to learn new ways to navigate life more comfortably. Napier has been cooking all her life, but when she saw the Cooking Series at hadley.edu, she decided to listen in.

“All these years I’ve been cooking, and I’ve never thought to stand to the side of the oven door rather than in front of it. Just goes to show, you’re never too old to learn,” she exclaimed cheerfully.
