Windows Magnifier

Magnifier Keyboard shortcuts

  • Windows logo key + Plus Sign or Minus Sign: Zoom in or out
  • Control + Alt + Spacebar: Preview desktop in full-screen mode
  • Control + Alt + F: Switch to full-screen mode
  • Control + Alt + L: Switch to lens mode
  • Control + Alt + D: Switch to docked mode
  • Control + Alt + I: Invert colors
  • Control + Alt + arrow keys: Pan in the direction of the arrow keys
  • Control + Alt + R: Resize the lens
  • Windows logo key + Esc: Exit Magnifier

Increasing font or icon sizes in Windows without changing optimal resolution

  • Access this feature by going to Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization link, and then choosing Display. This gives you the ability to permanently increase screen size to 125% or 150%.
  • Can also access the 'Set custom text size (DPI)' link in left navigation pane for a different setting. Default is 96 DPI. (Warning: This setting can affect how programs are displayed to user)

Zooming in or out of a document, presentation, or worksheet in MS Office 2007

  • Sliding bar in bottom right corner of status bar
  • View tab, Zoom group - choose a preset Zoom setting or use custom (up to 400%)
  • With mouse, hold down control key and use scroll wheel

Saving the Zoom setting in Word, PowerPoint, or Excel

  • In Word, open document or template, choose Zoom setting, add and delete a single space, and then save the document
  • In PowerPoint or Excel, open document or template, choose Zoom setting, and then save the document

Narrator Keyboard shortcuts (examples)

  • Control + Shift + Enter: Get information about current item
  • Control + Shift + Spacebar: Read the entire selected window
  • Control + Alt + Spacebar: Read items selected in current window
  • Insert + Control + G: Read a description of the items that appear next to the currently selected element
  • Insert + Q, W, E, or R: Moves cursor to access surround text with different formatting
  • Insert + F2: Select all of the text that has the same formatting as the character at the cursor
  • Insert + F3: Read the current character
  • Insert + F4: Read the current word
  • Insert + F5: Read the current line
  • Insert + F6: Read the current paragraph
  • Insert + F7: Read the current page
  • Insert + F8: Read the current document
  • Control: Stops Narrator from reading text
