Course Description
This course in the Social Skills series examines the impact of visual impairment on the development of social skills during the preschool years. It suggests ways to teach children the skills they need to interact with family members, caregivers, and peers. The goal of this course is to give parents and professionals the information they need to help the child establish and maintain positive relationships.

Objectives and Content

After completing Lesson 1, the student will be able to help the child interact with

  1. parents
  2. siblings
  3. relatives

After completing Lesson 2, the student will be able to

  1. summarize the role and dynamics of play during the preschool years
  2. identify toys, activities, and games that foster social interactions and full participation by both sighted and visually impaired children

After completing Lesson 3, the student will be able to help the child interact with others in such social settings as

  1. play groups
  2. daycare
  3. preschool
  4. kindergarten
