This is the second course in the Abacus series. Abacus 2 explains how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions, as well as work with percents and units of measure. This course also enables you to extract square roots and subtract a larger number from a smaller one.

Objectives and Content

This course is designed to help you solve more complex mathematical problems using the abacus. You can apply your skills to everyday problems like adding and subtracting quantities and making money transactions.

After completing Lesson 1, the student will be able to

  1. reduce fractions
  2. add fractions
  3. subtract fractions

After completing Lesson 2, the student will be able to

  1. multiply fractions
  2. cancel factors
  3. divide fractions

After completing Lesson 3, the student will be able to

  1. find percents
  2. use units of measure in mathematical operations

After completing Lesson 4, the student will be able to

  1. extract square roots of whole and decimal numbers that are perfect squares
  2. extract square roots of whole numbers that are not perfect squares

After completing Lesson 5, the student will be able to

  1. identify complementary numbers, active numbers, and inactive numbers
  2. subtract a larger number from a smaller one
  3. subtract a series of numbers
