To promote independent living through lifelong, distance education programs for blind people, their families and blindness service providers.

Hadley – Utah State University Partnership Offers Online Educational Opportunities

Hadley-USU Partnership logoAn exciting and innovative partnership between The Hadley School and Utah State University will broaden the reach of distance education for both schools and provide affordable access to education for teachers who work with visually impaired students. Beginning fall 2009, the schools will offer an online associate degree program in communication disorders focused on blindness and designed for para-professionals.

This program is funded by grants from the Lavelle Fund for the Blind, the Vision for Tomorrow Foundation, the Gibney Family Foundation, the Reader's Digest Partners for Sight Foundation, the Shapiro Foundation, HSBC - North America and the Siragusa Foundation.

Seminars@Hadley Presents: Features of the PAC Mate Omni Accessible Pocket PC

Join us for Seminars@Hadley on Saturday August 2, at 11AM CDT, 16:00 GMT as we talk with Jonathan Mosen, vice president of blindness hardware product management at Freedom Scientific. Jonathan will demonstrate the new PAC mate Omni 6.1 software, which offers features never before seen on a notetaker: universal contracted braille entry, PDF support and support for a range of commercial eBooks. George Abbott, dean of educational programs and instruction at Hadley, will moderate the discussion.

For Family Education program students:

You, Your Child, and Your Community
Raising a child who is visually impaired adds unique twists to the parenting adventure. This course shows how planning can help you face parenting challenges more confidently and strengthen the relationships with yourself, your child, other family members and your community.

For Adult Continuing Education program and High School students:

Experience Braille Reading
This 15-lesson course will help braille readers become familiar with reading a wide variety of material by providing exposure to the specialized formats used for brailling calendars, menus, recipes, poetry, song lyrics and more. The course explains how to follow the text and interpret the varied formats.

Literature: Fiction
Short stories and novels can entertain, teach about different people and places and inspire thinking about the meaning of life. This course presents short stories and novel excerpts and examines their elements. It also presents scenarios where fictional characters explore the meaning of the literary works. Prerequisites: successful completion of English Composition or passing a short writing diagnostic. (Available to U.S. students only)
