Hadley is proud to announce that the following seminars have been approved for continuing education hours. Continuing education hours can be used for certification/recertification or licensure purposes. Certification attests to an individual’s knowledge and skills deemed necessary to the field of practice and conveys a sense of pride and accomplishment.
If you have already attended one of these live seminars and/or have reviewed its archived audio recording, you can now take the next step and earn continuing education hours. Simply select the "Registration" link below for the seminar you wish to earn hours for. You will be asked to complete a registration form and pay a nominal fee. You will then be sent instructions for how to login to the online quiz environment. Simply score a passing grade of 70% or higher on the quiz and you will earn your CE Hours certificate of completion.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) combined with ever-growing location databases, present the opportunity for those who are blind or visually impaired to see location information (street signs, building names, etc.) through an audible representation of the environment. Listen to Mike May, President and CEO of Sendero Group, talk about the strengths and weaknesses of GPS, the differences between the various systems and how best to integrate GPS into the wayfinding equation.

Light is the way that images get into our eyes, allowing us to see. Most of us recognize that too little light makes it difficult to see or see well, but too much light or light from the wrong direction can reduce one’s ability to see just as dramatically. In this presentation, Marshall Flax, a Certified Low Vision Therapist working for the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Madison, WI, will discuss the different types of lighting and how to control lighting both indoors and outdoors. This information is useful for people with low vision, family members and professionals working in the field of rehabilitation and low vision therapy.

In this Seminars@Hadley, Les Stocker, president of the Braille Institute, will discuss time management, the cost and benefit of multitasking and how to maximize your effectiveness while minimizing stress and mental strain.

Consumers, rehabilitation providers and employers each have distinct but overlapping opinions, perceptions, and experiences concerning success and best practices in employment of persons who are blind/visually impaired. An overview of major barriers to employment will be explored, along with strategies recommended for overcoming those barriers.
This hour-long seminar is presented by Dr. Adele Crudden and Ms. B. J. Lejeune, both with Mississippi State University Rehabilitation Research & Training Center, and moderated by Billy Brookshire, Hadley’s consultant in Texas.
